8 crochet patterns for fall and winter
If you’re a regular here, you’ll know that just a couple of blog posts ago I went over my making plans for fall….but they were all knitting patterns. Now, I’m a crocheter as well as a knitter, and I felt bad that I didn’t have any crochet patterns in my immediate future.
So, although i may not be crocheting anytime soon, there are many beautiful fall crochet patterns out there, that would be perfect for the fall and winter period, and I want to highlight some of them in this post. If nothing else, it’ll be a good post for me to revisit in the future, but hopefully some crochet project ideas for you too.
I talked about this exact thing in my latest Youtube episode, which you can watch below.
Don’t forget to give the video a like if you do, and let me know what you’ll be making.

So let’s get into it.
Starting with sweaters, I have three that are on my radar:
The Granny-go-round jumper by Iron Lamb. I love this jumper, and in fact, a few years ago I made two of the kid’s version for my friends that had twins! I love the potential colour combinations that are to be had.
It’s a raglan style sweater, made with the classic granny square stitch. it uses DK weight yarn and is a great stash-busting opportunity!
Next, the Coast sweater from Air Crochet- now this is the pattern that really prompted me to make this video. I was just browsing on Ravelry and came across this pattern. Isn’t it beautiful? It looks so, so cozy and such a lovely design. I want to make it immediately!
It’s made with the Icelandic wool plotulopi and the pattern goes up to a 64 inch bust. I know i shouldn’t say this, but I can’t believe it’s crochet. It’s not that I don’t think crochet sweaters looks as good, it’s just that at first glance, this did not look like crochet.
Finally, I have the African Flower Sweater by Susanna of FOSBAS designs. I’m drawn to this one because of the granny square sleeves. It’s a cute addition and i can really see how experimentally you could get with colour combination. Another great stash-busting opportunity too, which I love. This pattern also goes up to a 62 inch bust.
Moving on from sweaters, lets take a look at shawls….
I’ve only ever crocheted (or knitted) one to two shawls…its definitely time for more, so here are three that I found on Ravelry, that are speaking to me:
First, Ma’s Prairie Shawl, by CrabAbble Crafts. The description says the shawl is inspired by Outlander, which I must confess, I haven’t seen more than the first episode of, so I can’t speak to that, but i do love the idea of having a shawl that wraps all the way round, keeping you snug on those cooler mornings and evenings.
The Weekend waffle shawl by Wild Bird reminds me of those little knit scarfs, like the Sophie scarf of petite knits, so I’m really thrilled to see a crochet version. This pattern is a DK weight (the designer holds two fingering weight yarns together). The pattern comes in three sizes: small medium and large. I am in need of a little scarf, I think this could be the one!
Last up for shawls, is the Odyssey wrap by TL Yarn crafts. This is a gigantic scarf! I love the colour combinations that Toni has used here, they’re giving very pacific north west, which is where I currently live. But I also love the tinier details, like the twisted tassels. It really adds style and a finished look. It’s crocheted with linen stitch, which I don’t think i’ve tried out before, so that would be another reason to get it on my crochet hooks.
And finally, because no autumn or winter is complete without a hat, we have, the Pescador Hat, by Nomad Stitches. I love a classic looking ribbed beanie like this. Last year I knitted the Manhattan hat by Tori Yu, which is a very similar style and now I fancy myself a crochet one, this pattern looks perfect for that.
So those are my plans. What are yours? Let me know in the comments below !
