As the temperatures have started to cool, I’ve started to think about getting cozy with my knitwear (although I would still like 1 to 2 weeks more of summer please and thank you!)

This post walks you through knitting patterns that I already have on my needles, and want to finish in this upcoming season. Before moving on to other fall knitting patterns that I have my eye on and would love to make…though if I’m realistic with myself, I’m never going to be able to make them.

I talked about this exact thing in my latest Youtube episode, which you can watch below.

Don’t forget to give the video a like if you do, and let me know what you’ll be making.

Signing up for my newsletter will also ensure you get the latest from me - from videos, to new pattern releases.

So let’s get into it.

I’ll start off with a project that I already have on my needles and really want to finish before it gets cold, so I can maximise my wear of it. The Ingrid Sweater, by PetiteKnit. I’m sure PetiteKnit needs no introduction to most of you. I have seen her patterns everywhere, on both Youtube and social media. Her style is what I would call ‘classic Scandi’. The designs seem timeless, and due to all the hype, I wanted to give one a try for myself.

I started the Ingrid Sweater way back in May, thinking I’d give myself the summer to knit it. However, it’s now September I still haven’t even finished the back panel (the first piece you do). I’ve had a busy summer, but now is time to finish it! I’ve been enjoying it so far, it’s a bit more challenging than other knits I’ve made, so I’m enjoying keeping my brain engaged. I’m knitting mine with Lion Brand Yarn’s Fishermans wool in their cream colourway.

Next are the projects that I definitely want/need to start AND finish before Christmas

One of my sister’s is expecting a baby very soon, and I want to knit a baby blanket, as I have for all of my niece and nephews to date. For this baby, I plan on knitting the Stella Quilt Blanket, by Laura Penrose. I have already bought some balls of Rico Baby DK yarn, which showed on my ‘Visiting the UK” vlog episode, but I just need a few more contrasting colours before I can get started.

I have a couple of other friends who are pregnant and due in the next couple of months. For them, I plan on making the Cinna Kiddo cardi by Maven Crafted. This pattern is an old favourite of mine. I’ve knitted in many times. It’s very easy to knit up and looks so squishy, comfy and cosy.

Lastly, in my list of definitely makes, are the Holly Jolly Socks, by This Handmade Life. I bought the pattern for these socks a few years ago, and now I think I have enough “christmas colours” of leftover yarn from Christmas socks of past makes, that I can be making these for myself this year. They look so traditional and festive, I would love to have them ready to wear on Christmas Day.

Next, I’ll run through my list of “Would love to make if by some miracle I have the time”.

Images of September so far. Left to right - working on my next sock design while on a hike, drinking coffee and knitting. Last, my crochet sweater vest, that will be released in October!

First up, are the Sierra Pants, by Saffiyah Talley. Admittedly, these may be more of a summer knit, but they’re knit with fingering weight yarn, which I know will take me forever, so it’s better that I get started sooner rather than later. Things I love about this pattern - the pants are size inclusive, going up to a 56 inch waist, and I’ve never knitted pants -or shorts- before, so I’m looking forward to trying it out with these.

After that are two sweaters. The Sonder by the Petite Knitter. This is another pattern that I purchased when it came out, but have yet to make, This would actually be a gift knit, for my partner James. The reason I haven’t made it yet, is because I want to use the same yarn as used in the original design - Sunday Morning DK by Sonder Yarn Company, because they have two colourways that I know he would love. I just haven’t been able to justifying buying a sweater quantity of this yarn just yet…..

Finally, the GR8 Gingham sweater, by Jessie Maed Designs. I’ve made a few of Jessie’s patterns before and I know I’m in safe hands with her designs. Her patters are size inclusive and give clear instructions to accommodate all shapes and sizes. What will hold me back on this one, is deciding what two colour combinations to use!

So those are my plans. What are yours? Let me know in the comments below, as well as how likely you think I am to get anywhere near the “would love to make” list!
