16 Cozy Knit and Crochet Patterns for Fall 2025 (Perfect for Stash-Busting)
This year I’ve been on a mission to work through my yarn stash. We’re eight months into the year now, and my recent six month review showed me I hadn’t used up quite as much as i’d though! So, with fall just around the corner, I wanted to get some ideas for patterns to follow, that will also make great stash-busters.. I’m sharing my findings with you in this blog post and video (linked below!)
This post includes knitting and crochet patterns that I’ve have found through searching Ravelry. I hope they inspire you to dive into your stash and cast-on something new for the up coming cooler season. And if you’re reading this from the Southern Hemisphere, you have even more time to get started on your autumnal projects.
All the patterns I’m sharing in this blog post, I have also saved into a Ravelry fall stash-busting patterns bundle. I’ll continue to add to them as I find more patterns.
If you would prefer something more visual, I also published a fall pattern round-up video on my Youtube channel, which you can find it right below this text!

This post contains both knitting and crochet patterns. I grouped the 16 patterns into four “loose” categories:
Garments
Home Decor
Accessories
Pumpkin theme!
As you can image, with pumpkins being a big feature of fall - especially here in North America, I found so many cute pumpkin themed patterns, I had give them their own category!
How do I pick the patterns to include?
Do find inspiration for stash-busting knit and crochet patterns, I made full search of the search features in Ravelry. For garments, I was looking for designs that were made with a medium weight yarn, like sport and DK, or with lighter weight, fingering yarn, but longer sleeves etc. made for slightly cooler temperatures.
What makes it stash busting? Patterns that uses one skein only, or has splashes of colour or stripes, that will enable us to use pieces of leftover yarn, or those special skeins.
Ok, on to category number 1 - Garments……..
From top to bottom, left to right: Confiture socks, cozy fall vibes 2, Retro tote, Pumpkin Spice Mittens, Fall for Granny pumpkins, Pumpkin patch socks, Autumn comes, Journey cowl.
GARMENTS
Crochet Sea Glass tee - Wool and Pine - crochet - $13 CAD
I’m very confident I’ve included the knitted sea glass cardigan in a previous pattern round-up, and if you’ve scrolled through any of my other previous pattern-round up blogs, you’ll know i’m a big fan of Wool and Pine designs, but I didn’t know there was a crochet top version of this pattern until researching this video, so I had to include! It’s made using fingering weight yarn, size inclusive covering 68 inch to 32 inch bust (including positive ease).
Jethro cardigan - Tanis Fibre Arts - knit and crochet - $9 CAD
For people who can knit and crochet and want to combine the two! This pattern is designed with DK weight yarn, with granny square front panels and back panels and knitted sleeves and edges. I LOVE IT! I’ve said before, granny squares are a perfect way to use up leftover yarn, but wouldn’t this be a fun project to try? I’ve tried mixing up knit and crochet before - my Lonsdale hat- but I’ve not tried a garment before.
Garter Marler Cardigan- WestKnits - knitted - $11.81 CAD
This pattern uses two fingering weight yarns held together to equal a DK weight yarn. The description says this pattern was designed to showcase all your fingering weight yarn! The design is size inclusive and constructed top down, so you can make the body as long or short as you like. I do like the garter stitch for stash-busting patterns, I think it’s a fun texture to show off all the different colours.
Stripe Hype dress - Kutovakika - knitted - $11.64 CAD
It’s striped so you can guess why it’s included in this list! This type of dress would also be perfect for the transition season too, long sleeve, long length. It you have a few skeins on different colours of DK weight yarn, up to 7 colours. .Size inclusive. Stockinette stitch, would be good for beginner too. 3mm needles, so could be a long project, best get started soon if you want to make this one. Having just finished one of her patterns, can recommend this one.
HOME DECOR
Fall jars- Highland Hickory Designs- crochet - $4.31 CAD/ free via the designers blog post
This is the prettiest design. Obviously the set up for the photos really sells the vibe of it- I like the autumnal flowers in the mason jars. I don’t know if you have decorations specifically for seasons, I don’t traditionally, but I could make an exception for this. The patterns uses aran weight, cotton yarn, but there’s no reason why it couldn’t be another weight I don’t think. You’d just need to make the rectangles bigger/smaller to accommodate.
Cushion cover- laughing purple goldfish - knit - FREE
This pattern uses 13 different yarns - the perfect stash-buster! It is knit as one rectangle then folded in half. It’s designed to not have to weave in ends - hence the tassel vibe on the edges (see below image), so it’s basically my dream cushion cover! The written patterns is very basic, but it’s a fairly straightforward project, using only moss stitch and changing colours every row. Different colour combinations can can give very different looks. Perhaps a different one for all seasons?!
Easy all-in-one cushion cover- The Nest blog - crochet - FREE
Sticking with cushion covers, but this time crochet, the design is made from just one granny square. Crocheted with fingering weight, cotton yarn the granny square is folded up and seemed together with crochet stitches around the cushion.
Fall horizons throw blanket- Mama in a Stitch - knitting - FREE
Knit using seven colours I think this blanket has a really pretty design and would be nice and cozy going into autumn and winter. It’s designed with bulky yarn, but does say in the description that there are notes in the pattern to adjust size.

ACCESSORIES
Journey cowl - by me! - knitting - $5 CAD
Designed with a DK weight yarn, this cowl is a one skein project. As it’s knit with a lighter weight yarn, it’s good to wear when it’s not totally freezing yet! It’s an easy stitch pattern repeat, so good for beginner knitters looking to do their first knitting in the round project.
Autumn comes- maliha designs - knitting - $9.28 CAD
This scarf is knit with fingering and lace yarn, to make a DK weight. Us crafters have really been loving the little scarves over the last year and this one looks very squishy and cozy. I do like the slightly bigger size of this, and in the nicest possible way, it reminds me of bunny ears! This is another one skein project and the description implies you can make the size and yarn weight adjustable.
Confiture shorty socks- Ars Mirabillas - knitting - $6.75 CAD
As it is berry picking season, I thought these socks were just the right vibe. Knit with fingering weight yarn there are opportunities to use up leftover yarn in the colour work. The description professes to be a good intro into colour work design too. So if you love colour work and looking to dip your toe, this pattern is for you!
Retro stripe tote bag- Lovable Loops Crochet designs - crochet - FREE
A simple colourful tote bag that can be made autumnal depending on the colours chosen.
PUMPKINS
Cozy fall vibes 2 (pumpkins and mushrooms) - FitFoodArt shop - knitting - $14.41 CAD
How about starting this category with some household decorations? Purchasing this collection gives you 7 different patterns, some mushroom, some pumpkins. The patterns calls for super bulky weight, but each design has different size options, so it really would be a great size buster.
Fall for Granny pumpkins - Mj’S Off the Hook Designs - crochet - $8.65 CAD
On the same thread as above, but looking for crochet patterns? I saw these aran weight, granny square style pumpkins that would make perfect stash busters. The pattern contains three different sizes of pumpkins.
Pumpkin Spice Mittens - Skeindeer Knits - knitting - $11.74 CAD
For those knitters that truly love pumpkin spice latte, how about these mittens?! Designed with fingering weight yarn, and graded to multiple sizes from pre-teen to adult XL. Ideally you have a pumpkin coloured yarn in your stash for these ones, but as you’ll see from other projects on Ravelry, these mittens work just as well in other colours. They could make great gifts too!
Pumpkin patch socks - Carol-Lynn Gee - knitting - $5 CAD
And finally, we’re ending with a sock pattern (my favourite kind of pattern!) Aside from the pumpkins, there are opportunities to use other colours in your stash with this design. The pattern description notes that the length of the calf and foot length are adjustable to accommodate different sizes.
